New for 2015
The Corvette Stingray gets a host of improvements for the 2015 model year, including a new Z06 model, a new eight-speed automatic transmission, fresh interior trim, and much more.
Heightened Senses
Few cars are – or can hope to be – as iconic as the Corvette. Last year’s iteration cemented the ‘Vette’s status as one of the best performance-car bargains of the last 50 years. What’s more, Chevrolet managed to do so without cutting corners. But Chevrolet isn’t done. The 2015 Corvette Stingray is back, and with it a host improvements, including a beefed-up Z06 version that will leave your heart pounding and your bank account feeling full.
Powertrains and Performance
Starting at $55,000*, the 2015 Corvette is an absolute bargain—a point that is hammered home further once behind the wheel of this skyrocket on wheels. Entry-level models (more on those later) are powered by a naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 that drives the rear wheels. A seven-speed manual is the default transmission, while an eight-speed automatic is available.
The 2015 Corvette takes a laser-focused approach to performance. Want to propel yourself from zero to 60 mph in five seconds? The Corvette does it in under four. The iconic sports car is also incredibly intelligent in how it manages engine efficiency, earning nearly 30 mpg** when in Eco mode thanks to some nifty cylinder deactivation, which turns the raucous V8 in a fuel-saving V4.
As if that wasn’t enough, the Corvette Z06 creates 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque from its supercharged 6.2-liter V8. Offered with the same two transmission, this marks the first time a Z06 version has been available with an automatic transmission. For all you go-fast lovers out there, Chevrolet says the Z06 can launch from 0-60 mph in a mere three seconds flat. Yeah, it brings a tear to our eyes, too.
Features and Trims
The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette is offered as a coupe or convertible in base Stingray, Stingray Z51 or Z06 trim. The coupe features a removable roof panel that stows in the trunk, while the convertible has a power soft top that can operate while the car is travelling at speeds up to 30 mph. The Stingray and Stingray Z51 are split into 1LT, 2LT and 3LT sub-trims; the Z06 comes in 1LZ, 2LZ and 3LZ sub-trims.
Needless to say there are a myriad of ways you can customize your Corvette, but it helps to have a strong foundation, and the Stingray’s extensive list of standard features does just the trick. Standard items include Brembo brakes, xenon headlights, and heated mirrors. Keyless ignition/entry, dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, and leather upholstery also come standard. And while sports cars don’t always place coziness ahead of performance, the Stingray comes with eight-way power seats that ensure comfort on drives both near and far.
A criticism of Corvette models in the past have been their somewhat Spartan interiors, but that’s clearly not the case with the 2015 Stingray. And if it’s technology you’re after; you’re in luck. The list of cabin tech includes OnStar with 4G LTE (subscription required), Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, an eight-inch color driver info display, and an eight-inch touchscreen that serves as the focal point to Chevrolet’ excellent MyLink infotainment system. Rounding out the impressive cabin technology is a rearview camera and a nine-speaker Bose® sound system, complete with two USB ports and SD card reader.
From here, the Stingray Z51 and various other trims add an exhaustive list of cosmetic and performance features to ensure you’re Corvette is wholly unique and armed with everything you need for a satisfying experience.
Design
The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray offers a true road presence that few competitors can match. The latest design language is modern but with enough callbacks to its iconic forbearers. It still possesses a uniquely American look, while offering up enough flair to be noticed and appreciated beyond our shores. New for 2015, the Z06 adds wider fenders and other aggressive styling cues that further distinguish it from the rabble.
It used to be that pure driving joy was the central focus of the Corvette, and that the interior was something simply to be tolerated. We’re happy to say that’s no longer the case. With a smart combination of leather, aluminum, and carbon fiber, the Corvette’s interior is a sight to behold—and even better to feel.
Yes, material quality is truly outstanding, and adding to the Corvette’s position of value is a remarkable interior that will have owners returning eagerly and without dread. There are even suede upgrades if you’re so inclined, and the sleek design elements dovetail brilliantly with the Corvette’s near-NASA levels of tech, like the large and vivid eight-inch color screen on the center dash.
Safety
Ensconced under the Stingray’s sporty character is an exceptionally secure vehicle that places safety above all else. Standard highlights include antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, side-impact airbags and a rearview camera. Also standard is OnStar, which includes automatic crash notification, on-demand roadside assistance, remote door unlocking, and stolen vehicle assistance.
Bottom Line
Sleek, sexy, and a true American sensation, the 2015 Corvette Stingray improves upon its lasting legacy in every way imaginable. With a penchant for drama – and punching well above its weight in terms of pure performance, power, and price – the Stingray provides the type of heart-pounding driving experience that only a true sports car can—and that everyone will appreciate.
