For most people, it would take little to no coaxing to get them behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Corvette. After all, the sports car is a legend. But for those of you who still need a little convincing, ForbesLife compiled a list of the reasons why the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is so much more than a sports car. Here are some of our favorites at DAS Demo.

The powerful V8 engine combined with an 8-speed automatic is pretty darn fast

The supercharged 6.2-liter V8 racing under the hood of the Z06 pushes out 650 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque, while accelerating from zero to sixty in either 2.95 seconds with the eight-speed automatic or 3.2 seconds with the standard seven-speed manual transmission. The eight-speed transmission will take the Z06 around the quarter-mile track in 10.95 seconds, or 11.2 seconds with the seven-speed. Either way, pretty darn fast. In addition to lightning speeds, both transmissions earn a respectable highway fuel economy of 29 mpg* highway.

It has a rockin’ body

Drivers will enjoy an updated aluminum chassis that’s twenty percent stiffer than the previous generation, so finally, for the first time since 1963, the Z06 is available as a convertible. If you opt for the carbon fiber hardtop version, the chassis is 60 percent stiffer than the previous version.

The widened body of the new Z06 held its own in GM’s wind tunnel, generating more downforce than any other production vehicle ever tested. The Z06’s extra width also helps accommodate two new tire options that allow sixty-to-zero braking in under 100 feet as well as the already mentioned zero-to-sixty speeds. The supercharged engine and upgraded carbon ceramic brake rotors that contribute to these numbers are kept cool thanks to well-placed enhanced cooling ducts.

Buyers can choose from one of ten exterior paint colors and four wheel designs to make the Z06 more personal.

The Z06 is easier to drive and makes you look good doing it

The Z06 comes with five driving modes: Weather, Eco, Tour, Sport, and Track, plus a standard electronic limited slip differential that continuously measures available traction and adjusts torque to maintain ideal grip on the driving surface. While you’re showing off in your Z06, the new Performance Data Recorder will record your run around the track for later review. The front-mounted, high-def camera works with GPS technology and telemetry data to record lap times, speed, engine RPM, throttle position, braking effort, lateral Gs, and other performance factors. Now you’ll have proof of that perfect race, even if no one is watching.

The inside is pretty and fun

Soft touch materials and supportive seats come in five different colors, or you can choose the Competition Sport Bucket Seats built on magnesium frames with available Nappa leather. You’ll find a flat-bottom steering wheel and aluminum, carbon fiber, and soft-touch leather covering almost every cabin surface.

You can outfit your Z06 with new tech features such as a navigation system, a multicolor heads-up display, heated and ventilated seats, a 10-speaker Bose® audio system, and a 4G WiFi hotspot.

Even with all the bells and whistles, the Corvette Z06 is still a great value

Even with everything mentioned, the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is still an incredible value with a starting price of only $79,000 MSRP** for the coupe or $83,000 MSRP** for the convertible. Be sure to check out the Z06’s online configurator to see all of your options.
